What three words would you use to describe your approach to the real estate business?:
Good Communication
Market Knowledge
Strong Marketing
What's one aspect of your business that you are looking to improve on this year? In what ways/how would like to see yourself improve?:
My business has always been built on utilizing my sphere of influence for referrals and repeat business. This year, I would like to add 1 to 2 additional avenues of lead generation, such as farming, open houses, B2B networking etc.
To what do you attribute your success most?:
Hard work and really focusing on doing a great job for my clients to earn their repeat business and referrals.
If you had one piece of advice for someone just starting out in real estate, what would it be?:
Don't expect to find success overnight in this business. It takes time to build your business, so be prepared not only financially but mentally for that and trust the process.
What's the one piece of advice you always give your clients first?:
For most, this will be the biggest financial decision they will make in their life. It will be scary at times, but that is why I am here to help guide you through the process and make it as least scary as possible, and everything goes as smoothly as possible.
Failure is a natural part of achieving success. How do you recoup when things don't necessarily go your way?:
I have been doing this long enough that I feel I handle the ups and downs of this business fairly well, but when things don't go my way, I just try to focus on the positives and if needed take a little time to myself to regroup and refocus.
If work-life balance is important to you how can you tell if you are getting it right?:
Balance has always been one of my main words I try to live by. Balancing work, family, and personal time is something I always try to focus on. I think the easiest way to tell that you are accomplishing that is if you are in a good mindset and headspace, and if you are, I think that is a good sign you are doing well with your work-life balance.
What roles have mentors played in your life and career?:
I was lucky to have grown up in the real estate business with some good mentors, including my father. While he was always there to help with advice or guidance, he also let me be me and learn from my mistakes, which I feel has helped me be successful and last as long as I have in this business.
What risks were you willing to take when starting out in your career and how have they benefited you?:
While it wasn't the very start of my career, I took a big risk when I opened up my own brokerage in one of the toughest times in real estate in 2008. That taught me that I could be successful in almost any real estate market if you are able to adapt and work hard.
If you could only ever visit one business again in Sonoma/Napa/Mendocino/SF County, what would it be and why?:
That is a tough questions but I am an ice hockey player, so I guess I would have to say Snoopy's Home Ice, so I could still get my hockey games in.
