American Canyon (previously known as Napa Junction) is a city located in southern Napa County, California, 35 miles northeast of San Francisco in the San Francisco Bay Area. The 2010 census reported the city's population at 19,454. The city was incorporated in 1992.
American Canyon is bounded geographically by the Napa River to the west, the foothills of the Sulfur Springs Mountains to the east, Vallejo and Solano County to the south and vineyards and the Napa County Airport (IATA airport code APC) to the north. American Canyon Creek, a tributary of the Napa River, runs through the city.
The City of American Canyon, with its picturesque backdrop of rural rolling agricultural hills, is located in southern Napa County. This is the SF Bay Area’s entry point to the Napa and Sonoma Valley wineries, areas internationally recognized for producing some of the world's finest wines.
American Canyon is located approximately 40 miles northeast of San Francisco. We are within proximity of some of the finest institutions, such as the University of California (U.C.) campuses at Berkeley (30 miles), San Francisco (42 miles) and Davis (41 miles); and within close proximity to Tuoro University (8 miles). We are conveniently located 42 miles from the Oakland International Airport (OAK), 50 miles from the San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and 60 miles from the Sacramento International Airport (SMF).
RECREATION
The City owns and operates a community center and aquatic facility. A branch of the County Library operates in Canyon Plaza. The City has over 50 acres of developed parkland, ranging from tot lots to a 20-acre community park. The City owns a large open space on its western edge that has been restored as tidal wetlands. The trailhead of the Wetlands Edge segment of the Napa River Bay Trail is located at the corner of Wetlands Edge Road and Eucalyptus Drive, and the 640-acre Newell Open Space Preserve is located on the eastern edge of the City. Hiking and horseback riding trails can be found at Newell Open Space.
